Emily Turns 4

Emily today was your 4th birthday. You woke in a fine mood but with a couple of hours had your grumpy on. You took off your dress-up clothes, for what reason I can't remember, and threw them as far as you could (2-3 feet). Um, time out.

You settled and eventually went with your mom to pick up your cake and a few other party items. The theme this year was "The Little Mermaid." For weeks leading up to today you talked about Ariel, Eric and Melody coming to the party. You even threatened to delay or cancel the event if they could not come. But as predicted, you forgot all about that when the doorbell rang for the first time. :)

The invitations read "Party @ 2:30." Your mom and I true to form would be ready @ 2:30 and not a minute earlier. The first guest arrived at 2:00, then the second at 2:05. Your mother nearly had a meltdown. She would later express her frustration at the fact that I was not panicking with her. :) We kicked it into high gear, put Cary and Tony to work and were finished in no time!

Everyone played outside, swinging and blowing bubbles. You loved your cake blowing out the candle on the first try. There were too many gifts to count. The favorites, of course, being the Eric doll and Eric action figures. You also received some dress up clothes, and a lot of "My Little Pony" toys.

Immediately dressing up as Ariel (new outfit) you spent the rest of the day playing with Eric.

Condors 4 Fresno 0

Emily's first hockey game was a game 6 playoff game for the local ECHL hockey club, The Bakersfield Condors.

Jumiping up and down screaming after the first goal, asking for a "high-five" after and penalty kill, Emily fit right in during her first hockey game and made her papa very proud.

Up and down from her seat. Letting the seat "squish" her together. The guy sitting next to Emily must of wondered what he'd gotten himself into. Emily who screamed at the top of her lungs every chance she had, sometimes for no reason was having the time of her life the way toddlers do. :)

The first period, Emily was full of energy. This was however, a pre-school day (up early) and she did not fall asleep at nap time. During the first intermission, she turned in her seat and made friends with the couple behind her but by 5 minutes into the second, she was in my lap.

It didn't help that the 2nd period was slow. Emily curled up and munched on popcorn. Soon she was snuggling in tight saying that she wanted to go to sleep (it was an hour past bedtime). I offered to take her home but she insisted on staying and perked up several times.

During the second intermission, Emily "had to go potty." Welcome to the mens room during a sporting event. We survived and I dodged a few questions on the way out. :)

I offered to take Emily home but she insisted on staying. She spent the 3rd period on my lap, snuggled into my shoulder. Every time the Condors scored, I jumped up and bounced her in my arms. She laughed histerically every time.

On the way out I bought her a small hockey stick to remember the night by. Emily said "maybe my yellow stick could help the condors." They need me but I would slip running around on the ice."

I carried her all the way to the car. She told me, "We have to come back to hockey on Wednesday."

The next day she was running around the house with her hockey stick saying, "I'm playing hockey" and "but papa didn't buy me a puck" to anyone who would listen.

Mommy, Where are My Jelly Beans?

Yeah Sondra, where are Emily's jelly beans that the Easter Bunny brought her?

With a guilty look, Sondra promises Emily to buy her more at the store.

Her plea to Emily, "I thought you liked the chocolate more." - nice one dear. Next time just sneak one at a time like I do, not the entire basket. :)

Maddy is Walking

She is taking 1 step from the table to the couch. She'll be running in no time.

Emily's First Hockey Game!

Tonight I told Emily that I was taking her to her first hockey game this Thursday. SHE GO SOO EXCITED that she clinched her fists, shook her hand and began cheering.

Hmm. I wonder where she learned that?

Marriage Talk Already?

If you are around Emily at all you know she has a mad crush on a new man - Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid. The crush is so bad that she not only talks about him incessantly, but she expects him to come to her birthday party next weekend.

We have tried explaining why he can't come with reasons ranging from "he only goes to birthday parties at Disneyland" (Sondra) to "Um, he's a cartoon Emily" (me). Regardless, she is undaunted in her desire to see him.

For some time now Emily has not had books read to her at bedtime. Instead of a book, she asks the person putting her down to make up a story. For months and months every story was about Gordon the train. Now every story is about Eric.

Making up stories is easy beacuse Emily gives you an outline of the story she wants to hear. Emily will say "Tell me a potion Eric tied-up story." Which translated is a story about Eric that follows plot lines from the movies. And if you forget any part of the story or Emily is quick to remind you what you left out.

Yesterday the stories got ugly.

"Tell me a potion Eric tied-up story marries Emily." Huh? Say what? "Marries Emily?" - Are you kidding me? At age 3!!!

Sad but true, Emily has already begun planning her wedding day. She had a crush of Jeff Wiggle and Gordon the train but this marriage stuff is too much. Thanks for nothing Disney. :)

A Historic First

This morning Emily came into our bedroom at 7:00am as usual. To our surprise she had changed out of her sleeping clothes and gotten herself completely dressed!

She has been dressing herself for several weeks now. Usually she must be prompted and even then it can turn into a tantrum. This morning she was beaming with pride and in the greatest of moods (she's not usually a morning person). Needless to say, mommy and I were thrilled and gave her lots of praise, hugs and kisses.

:)
