Marrying Matthew

The two kids continue to insist they will one day be married. A few days ago Emily and I had this exchange.

Emily - "I'm going to marry Matthew"
Papa - "Oh, so someday you'll be Emily Evans."
Emily - "NO, he'll be Matthew Keckley"

Matthew, you have been warned. :)

My Grandkids Will Have All of the Authority

Emily was not happy when I told her to get dressed tonight. She screamed at me to leave the room and when I would not she SCREAMED...

"I'm going to let my kids do what they say!"

"I'm going to tell Matthew to let the kids do what they want!"

Ok, Em, will see how that works out for you. :)

OMG - Emily Sat Still For a Posed Photo

Maddy and Her "BEEE!"

She reminds me so much of Linus. If given the chance, she will carry her blanket around with her all day. The trouble is that holding the blanket causes her to put her thumb in her mouth as a reflex. She looks like this photo even while stumbling around the house.

We have taken to tossing the blanket in the far corner of the crib so she can't get to it. Sometimes, she finds a way to get it anyway. Way to use your problem solving skills Maddy!

Quoatable

Papa - "Emily you need to go wash your hands."

Emily pauses, looks at her hands and says, "but I don't see any Germans."

AWANA and the New Wednesday

Emily has started AWANA. It's akin to scouts only church sponsored and Christ centered. AWANA is on Wednesday night so Emily leaves with Sondra when she goes to Bible study.

When Emily said, "You and Maddy will have to dance without me tonight" it about broke my heart. For the past two years, Wednesday has been the night I had the girls to myself. They were the two hours a week that Emily knew I existed so I clung tight to them. Although Emily has long since warmed up to me on other days, by and large the girls still fight tooth and nail for mommy's attention. Wednesday as it was was nice and I will miss it.

Wednesdays will now be all about Maddy! She's still a little young to really do to much with but it won't be long before we're playing as hard as Emily and I did. I am excited about this because it's hard to get 1v1 time with the kids. I remember a time in my life when my dad made sure we had 1v1 time and it meant a lot to me. I hope my time with the girls means the same to them. :)

Thank you Uncle C. and Aunt P.!!!

Emily and Sondra are reading Alice in Wonderland at bedtime. As chance would have it, as they got to "Unbirthday" part of the story, a package arrived for Emily that said "Happy Unbirthday." It was a thrill to Emily and a wild coincidence to Sondra and me. Inside the package was this dress from her uncle and aunt which she wore to preschool this week!
